Pricing and policies

(subject to change- correct February 2024)

I love teaching Maths and English and inspiring children to learn. I am committed to supporting pupils to achieve their goals and make best use of lessons.

The lessons are intended for the pupils’ enjoyment and personal growth.  Pay as you go is accepted for the initial two lessons, after which lessons are pre-payable in monthly blocks - 4 or 5 lessons will be stated on your invoice according to the number of lessons you will receive.  Eastbourne Home Tuition normally trades and lessons take place during school holidays, excluding key religious days. If your lessons take place on a bank holiday there is no extra charge, however you will be notified in advance if no lessons are taking place.  It is best for pupils to receive regular weekly lessons for maximum benefit, I have introduced a split pricing scheme to reflect the needs of families wishing to take regular holiday breaks to match the school terms. Alternative arrangements can be discussed prior to commencing lessons.

Regular Individual 1 hour lesson (Key Stage 1 & 2) £35

This price is for regular weekly lessons. Pupils may miss up to 4 lessons annually, without charge, providing a minimum of 48 hours’ notice has been given (including illness).

Individual 1 hour lesson, permitted some breaks (Key Stage 1 & 2) £40

This price is higher to permit regular breaks such as for school holidays. Please inform us of such breaks as early as possible, the monthly invoice will reflect the number or lessons requested. A minimum of 48hrs notice is required for cancellation (including illness) to avoid losing your lesson fee. If minimal notice is given repeatedly your lesson slot may be offered to another family requesting more regular support. As a business we have limited availability for less frequent lesson bookings.

Paired lessons 1 hour - 10% discount will be applied. Each pupil will pay the hourly rate less 10%

Where a sibling or suitable partner can be found of an appropriate level a paired lesson may be possible. This can work very successfully with children enjoying bouncing ideas off each other and playing interactive games together or against each other.

·All lessons take place on zoom, where there is a technical glitch I try to remain flexible and switch to other methods such as WhatsApp.

To save time it is recommended that you come to lessons prepared with resources, but don’t worry if you don’t have items for the first lessons, we can work around it.

Key Stage 1 - a dice, a whiteboard and whiteboard pen and cloth/rubber (often clearer to show me on the screen than pencil on paper), post-its.

English – If pupils are used to a laminated alphabet mat at school they may wish to refer to this (particularly helpful if it uses the school’s handwriting formation).  The school handwriting policy or teacher should be able to help with this – flicks, descenders/tails, ascenders, curls all vary between school and pupils like to get it right.  Most work will be on the whiteboard or screen, but lined paper (usually 1cm lines) will support.

Maths - A100 square and/or number line (like the one used at school NB some start on 1 and some 0) - ideally this is laminated and a pencil (alternative put in a poly-pocket), paper, ruler (optional rubber) and a dice.  As time goes on you may wish to have arrow/place value cards.

Key Stage 2 – a pencil, paper, ruler, a dice, post-its,

English – a dictionary, lined paper

Maths - a laminated 100 square, protractor,

Whilst lessons are live on Zoom, parents/carers are encouraged to stay in ear shot and where possible remain available to support the child with technical advice or support.  Younger pupils still benefit from regular parental praise to keep motivation high and reassurance when they hit challenges in their learning.  Some pupils benefit from parents popping in and out or joining in the last ten minutes to hear all the good news or join the last game, some pupils work independently and other have a parent sitting in throughout.  At times for playing interactive games, to minimize the lag, pupils are encouraged to load specific pre-vetted free games and share as they play, for younger pupils I request a parent supports this transition and supervises to ensure any content accessed/ads your end remain appropriate.

Special Educational Needs or disabilities - If made aware of the learner's needs I can work together with you to adapt the teaching style, as appropriate, to maximize engagement, enjoyment and opportunity for learning.

Reports can be prepared every six weeks, these can be pre-booked for an additional £10.  Parents are always welcome to join the lessons and hear live feedback and receive suggested tasks/activities to work on, all included in the lesson price.

 Teacher’s responsibilities

·       To maintain a clear DBS (police check) and offer this on request.

·       Ongoing verbal feedback to parents within the lesson times

·       Written feedback at the end of a block of lessons if pre-ordered (£10).

·       To provide GDPR documentation to clarify data protection.

·       To promote additional opportunities for home learning activities via my website or Facebook posts (Any use of Facebook or the internet is targeted at parents sharing the information with the pupil, I am not encouraging pupils to independently interact).

 Cancellation

We both have the right to cancel future lessons and end the relationship at any time.  If all future lessons are being cancelled, provided 48 hours’ notice has been received, pre-paid future lessons will be refunded, less a £5 administration fee. You are responsible for attending your lesson and if you fail to attend a lesson or cancel with less than 48 hours’ notice, then you will be liable to pay the full fee for the missed lesson.  I will remain online for 15 minutes to allow for late joining, after which the lesson will be forfeited.  If I need to cancel or delay a lesson I will endeavour to ensure that you are put to minimal inconvenience and that a minimum of 48 hours’ notice is given, whenever possible.  If an alternative lesson is not possible you will be offered a refund or credit for pre-paid lesson fee.

I look forward to working in partnership, with you, to support your child in their education.
